First stop on our first weekend adventure: Pompeii! Pictured here are some photos of the city (and people) of the city of Pompeii. The town was destroyed and buried under layers of ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. It was rediscovered in 1749 and “i scavi” (the excavations) now give us a fairly detailed look into the everyday lives of the people during a Roman Empire that was at its peak. They had more in common with us that I’d ever imagined, including living rooms, crosswalks, and even “fast food” restaurants!
